It offered me structure and the camaraderie of fellow veterans. I made new friends and enjoyed the AA meetings and classes offered.

It helped me set goals and I was able to obtain permanent independent housing.  It taught me the life skills I needed to live independently.

Michael A. McCall Interview

A fire occurred in my home on January 23rd, 2021. It ended a six-year addiction that started when I  relapsed in 2015 after being drug-free for thirteen years. Due to severe smoke inhalation, I stayed in the hospital for one week. I had no desire to return to the house when I recovered, even though everything I  owned remained.

Fortunately, a friend suggested I contact Mr. Smith and inform him of my situation. He was receptive,  and after an interview and the intake process, he accepted me into his program. That day was significant for me. Someone gave me the chance to get my life back on track, and I couldn't have been more grateful.

His program provided a safe, drug-free environment that allowed me first to nourish my body. Anyone familiar with and has used crack knows that it destroys the physical body from the inside. It also destroys self-esteem, self-fulfillment, and mental and spiritual health simultaneously. As I began to heal,  my physical health improved markedly, and I started to feel whole again.

Thanks to Mr. Smith's generosity, honor, respect, compassion, and foresight, I have become a more confident, determined, productive, and focus-driven individual. I have also regained the pride I once had as an honorable veteran. Without Mr. Smith, I genuinely do not know where I might have ended up if he were not there at that crucial time of my life.
